Circuit 2 Before you watch a movie you usually hazard a guess as to its quality. In this case I was right. I don't know how a movie like this is supposed to make money. The only thing I can think of is that it cost so little to make that it can generate a profit off of the few people who will pick it up out of curiosity and the same guys who order "instructional videos" out of the back of martial arts magazines. The acting sucked, the dialogue sucked; even the fights which should have been the backbone of the film were too choppy and lifeless to hold any interest. They're all shot from 20 feet away and performed by people who are probably real fighters and don't make very good stuntmen. The story revolves around Dirk Longtree (I don't know who decided that would make a good name) who used to be a kickboxer but is now a college coach. He's going to propose to his girlfriend who happens to get captured by prison guards while she's video taping the illegal fights they stage in the prison basketball court. She ends up in a coma after being brutally raped by the prison's top fighter, Pike. Dirk does some training and goes into the prison where he is immediately thrust into the arena. The guards are evil, the warden's evil, most of the prisoners are evil, and Dirk wups everyone's ass. Eventually Pike murders a student of Dirk's and then brags about raping his fiancé. The warden finds out Dirk isn't a real prisoner but for some reason never does anything about it(to include allowing Dirk to make phone calls out). In the final climactic battle Dirk eventually kills Pike. Then says something about his friends being dead and how that sucks. If you're interested in fighting you might watch this but don't pay for it. Maybe even have a book on hand to read between fight scenes. |
